Beer

Hops have been traditionally grown in the UK since the 16th century, however they have not been grown in Wales commercially since 1874. We at Bubbleton Farm are now growing hops to support the emerging Welsh micro-brewing industry.

Walk in or hide out between 2m tall hops in our ‘Hop Garden’, and smell the aromas of the hops being grown.

Who uses our hops?

We are currently working with 3 breweries:

How and Why?

After graduating from University, and before returning to the family farm in 2014, I spent 7 years working for Diageo at the iconic Guinness Brewery – St James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin. My role in this famous brewery was planning the supply of Guinness, Smithwick’s, Kilkenny, and Harp to every corner of the world, and additionally Budweiser, Carlsberg and Tuborg for the Island of Ireland. Needless to say, I’m passionate about beer, and the idea of applying my passion for agriculture with my passion for beer and also my passion for Wales and local produce was irresistible. Consequently, I received support from Cywain in 2015 who conducted the feasibility study, field trips and who put me in contact with the British Hop Association.

We joined the British Hop Association in 2015 and planted the hops in April 2015, since then we have been busy nurturing, and training and pruning our hops and they have thrived in the Pembrokeshire climate and we have witnessed increasing yields year on year, and we have been blown away by the beer that our highly skilled brewers have created with our Pembrokeshire Hops.
